14 degrees and the lake is 90% frozen, winter has arrived. The ranger told me that the lake went from not frozen at all to 90% frozen. I guess the good thing was is the wind wasn't blowing and it was quite enjoyable being out on this beautiful morning.
Cold weather photography is a whole new ballgame and precautions need to be taken. 14 degrees didn't feel to bad at first but after you are out in the elements you start to feel the cold. The thing is if you aren't dressed properly you'll feel the cold
really fast and could end up injuring yourself because of poor planning. The easiest way to stay warm is dress in layers so you layers of warm air in the layers of clothing under you coat. I hate having cold hands and wear a thin pair of gloves with
mittens over the top of the gloves. Cameras get cold too and efforts need to be taken to keep the battery warm or have an extra one insde your coat pocket to swap out. One other thing to beware of is condensation. When you are done shooting
pack up your camera gear and put it in the camera bag, when you get home enjoy a hot beverage and let your camera equipment come up to temperature inside the bag before taking it out and getting your card for post processing. The important
thing is don't let the cold keep you inside get out and enjoy the cold weather. It's another day closer to spring.
